Privacy policy
Last updated: 2026-04-19
This policy describes how Appcellent ("we", "us") handles information in
connection with the Pupillary Distance iOS application (the "App")
and the website at pupillarydistance.app (the "Site"). Our goal is
simple: we collect as little as possible, your measurements stay on your device, and
we never sell personal data.
The short version
- The App measures on your device. It does not require an account, and your PD measurements are stored locally on your iPhone — there is no backend server and nothing is uploaded.
- The front camera is used live only while you are measuring. No photo or video is ever recorded, saved, or transmitted.
- We do not sell or rent any information to third parties.
1. Information collected by the App
The App uses your iPhone's front-facing TrueDepth camera, live and in real time, to measure the distance between your pupils. The camera feed is processed on-device to compute your PD and is never recorded: no image, video, or face data is stored or sent anywhere. Your measurement results (such as far, near, and monocular PD, and any name or date you add) are saved only in local storage on your device. You can delete them at any time, and removing the App deletes them.
To understand how the App is used and to improve it, we collect limited, aggregated analytics through Mixpanel (for example, which screens are opened and whether a measurement was completed). These analytics are not used to identify you and do not include your camera feed or face data. Standard App Store telemetry (crash reports, download counts, aggregate usage statistics) may also be collected by Apple under Apple's own privacy policy.
2. Information collected by the Site
The Site is a static marketing website. It does not require registration and does not set tracking cookies. Your browser may make standard requests (HTML, CSS, images, fonts) served via our content delivery network (Cloudflare), which may process your IP address for abuse-prevention and routing purposes under Cloudflare's privacy terms.
If we enable Cloudflare Web Analytics, aggregate page-view information is collected without using cookies or fingerprinting and without transmitting IP addresses to us.
3. Subscriptions and in-app purchases
The App is free to try; an optional subscription unlocks PD measurement and frame recommendations. Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store, and we use RevenueCat to manage entitlements and validate receipts. We and RevenueCat receive a purchase token and subscription status from Apple, but we do not receive your full payment details, which Apple handles under its own privacy policy. See RevenueCat's privacy policy for details.
4. Contact form and email
If you email us at [email protected], we will see your email address and the content of your message. We use that information only to respond and retain it no longer than necessary.
5. Third-party services
- Apple App Store. Distribution and in-app subscription purchases are handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy.
- RevenueCat. Manages in-app subscriptions and entitlements for the App.
- Mixpanel. Aggregated, privacy-conscious product analytics used to improve the App. No camera or face data is sent.
- Cloudflare. Hosting and content delivery for the Site.
- Self-hosted fonts. Typefaces are bundled with the site — no third-party font CDN is used.
- Google Analytics 4. Aggregate, IP-anonymized web analytics (page views and a custom
download_clickevent for "Download the App" buttons). No advertising features are enabled. Google may set first-party analytics cookies; you can opt out by enabling Do Not Track in your browser or by using Google's opt-out add-on. - AppsFlyer (via OneLink). The "Download the App" buttons route through an AppsFlyer attribution link before opening the App Store. AppsFlyer records the click for install-attribution purposes; details are governed by AppsFlyer's privacy policy.
6. Children
The App and the Site are general-audience products. They are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
7. Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction (for example, the EU/UK under GDPR or California under CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port personal data we hold about you, and to object to certain processing. Because we collect so little, most requests can be fulfilled quickly. Email [email protected] to exercise any of these rights.
8. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect the limited information we process. No system is perfectly secure; please contact us immediately if you believe you have found a vulnerability.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by a new "Last updated" date at the top of the page.
